For high current applications, KOA has now expanded its existing power shunt series by adding the new PSJ2/PSL2 (2 terminals) and PSG4/PSF4 (4 terminals) series. Constructed using a solid metal alloy resistance element with copper terminals the devices provide superior corrosion and heat resistance, along with excellent pulse resistance.The new shunt resistors are ideal for accurate high current sensing in automotive, industrial and pulse applications.

Overview

Shunt resistors are used to measure or sense electric current. When using a current-shunt resistor it is important to keep the resistance value as small as practically possible to keep the voltage drop and power dissipation low. For very high currents KOA Europe GmbH introduces its new PSJ2/PSL2 and PSG4/PSF4 metal plate power shunts.

KOA's PS series are ideal for high current measurements up to 244A (PSJ2; 0.2 mΩ; 12 W). The rated power dissipation is 10 W for 0.5 mΩ versions and 8 W for 1 mΩ types at a maximum +75 °C terminal part temperature. The full copper construction of the terminals ensures good heat stress and excellent temperature cycling characteristics. With a resistance tolerance of ±1 % and a T.C.R. of ±50/±75 ppm/K, these PS type resistors allow very accurate high current measurements.

For applications which need a more precise measurement and an excellent T.C.R., the PSG/PSF with its 4-terminal Kelvin configuration should be used.
