FFC/FPC is a one-piece type connector that makes the connection with a directly-inserted FFC or FPC and locking by means of a lever. These type of connector can be used in a wide range of digital devices when low profile or horizontal insertion of flex will be required.

Today’s electronic components are expected to meet stringent demands: They have to be as compact as possible and provide maximum reliability. To fulfill these requirements, Panasonic engineers have developed narrow-pitch connectors that utilize TOUGH CONTACT technology. In addition to their excellent shock and vibration resistance, these connectors feature an ultra-slim profile, which makes them ideally suited to applications where space is at a premium. Our versatile FPC (flexible printed circuits) and FFC (flat flexible cables) connector product range offers the appropriate solution for practically any scenario.
The portfolio offers heights from 0.6 to 1.0mm and pitches from 0.2 up to 0.5mm.

The FFC / FPC connector series Y5B / Y5BW contribute their part towards miniaturization of various devices. The pitch of 0.5 mm at a height of 1 mm makes them ideal for applications with limited space.

The Y5B series offers variants with 4 up to 50 contacts and is especially suitable for the connection of FFCs. Through the enlargement of its product portfolio with the Y5BW series, which is for the processing of FPC's with lateral punching´s, the customer requirements for higher retention force can be fulfilled in an effective manner. The required size and the layout on the board are identical in both series and a change between the two series is very simple. The series Y5BW offers versions from 2 to 48 contacts (top&bottom) and is working with back lock structure.

Features

  • Improved design flexibility of the PCB layout by top and bottom contacts and low profile
  • Terminals on the connector bottom surface are covered with resin, conductor traces can be located beneath the connector
  • Additional soldering terminals make the connector more resistant for twisting during soldering and assembly
  • Back lock structure for slight and reliable FFC/FPC connection
  • Temperature range extends from -55°C to +85°C
  • Maximum transferable load per contact is 0.5 A / 50V AC / DC

Applications

  • Display connection (various applications)
  • Touchpad / Touch foil connection (industrial automation / home appliance)
  • Camera module connection (security device)
  • Sensing device connection (inside sensor)
