Bishop recently completed a new report and database on the North American Cable Assembly Manufacturers. The North American cable assembly manufacturers number 1,105 companies in this report and had 2015 annual worldwide revenues of $65,850 million. The largest company is Sumitomo with worldwide sales of $12,850 million. The top ten companies in this report have combined worldwide sales of $44,725 million representing 67.9% of the identified revenues.

The 10 companies with sales > $1,000 million are 0.9% of the companies by number and represent 67.9% of the combined 2015 sales by company. There are 569 companies, 51.5% of the total, with sales of ≤$5 million and their 2015 sales represent only 1.8% of the total revenues.

The following is a high-end summary of the companies included in the report:

The United States is the North American headquarters for 1,042 of the companies. Canada is the North American headquarters for 62 of the companies. Mexico is the North American headquarters for one of the companies. There are undoubtedly more companies out there which are probably of smaller size or buried deep within a corporate structure, but we feel that this report has covered over 95% of the overall industry.

1,055 of the companies have manufacturing locations. 152 of the companies have manufacturing locations in China. 145 of the companies have manufacturing locations in Mexico. 98 of the companies have manufacturing locations in Canada. 91 of the companies have manufacturing locations in Asia Pacific. 89 of the companies have manufacturing locations in Europe. 76 of the companies have manufacturing locations in ROW. 34 of the companies have manufacturing locations in Japan.

Of the 1,105 companies, 757 companies generated all or part of their sales from the Industrial market, 620 companies generated all or part of their sales from the Mil/Aero market, 504 companies generated all or part of their sales from the Medical market and 314 companies generated all or part of their sales from the automotive market.

The average revenue per company was $59.5 million. The median company size was $5 million.

The state with the most cable assembly manufacturers is California with 199 companies that have a combined 2015 sales value of $4,098 million. The next largest state by number of companies is Illinois with 69 companies and $1,505 million of combined revenues. Michigan has the most revenues credited to a state at $23,908 million which is related to the automotive industry and four of the largest automotive cable assembly manufacturers having their North American headquarters in the state. The state with the second highest revenues is Kentucky with $12,896 million. We were unable to find any cable assembly manufacturers in four states including Alaska, Hawaii, Louisiana and South Dakota.

The report includes profiles on each of the 1,105 identified companies. The profiles are in alphabetical order. Each profile includes: the company name, street address, web site, and phone number; the business manager/owner’s name; the estimated 2015 gross revenues and cable assembly revenues of the company; the estimated number of employees and facility size; product specialties; quality certifications; minority status; manufacturing locations by region of the world; market sectors served; products manufactured; and a brief description of the business. The profiles in this report are also available in spreadsheet format which is sortable by the key information points contained in the profiles.
