Panasonic Pyroelectric Infrared Motion Sensors (PaPIRs)

Panasonic Industry develops and produces PIR motion sensors, which combine easy integration, high reliability and environment-friendly materials. The passive pyroelectric infrared motion motion sensors abbreviated as PaPIRs, have different series of products, including EKM (3rd generation) and AMN (2nd generation).

The PaPIRs from Panasonic Industry offer crucial advantages over conventional PIR motion sensors. The unique design concept ranges from the production of the pyroelectric sensing devices to the internal signal processing, thus guaranteeing an optimal detection capability and high reliability.

  • EKMC = digital or analog output (op-amp) of 170μA
  • EKMB = digital output (open drain) and a very low standby power consumption of 1μA, 2μA, 6μA
  • AMN = 170μA digital or analog output

If you’re tall a person, you stick out in a crowd and sweet old ladies ask you to get things from the top shelf in the grocery store. If you’re a tall component, you just stick out, especially as lighting controls, thermostats, IP cameras, and other designs trend towards slimmer profiles. Panasonic’s EKMB and EKMC low-profile lens PIR motion sensors provide comparable performance to their standard lens counterparts, but at a height of just 10.9 millimeters.

The sensors can detect objects up to 5 meters away and have 32 detection zones covering a 110 by 110 degree field of view. Panasonic offers the EKMB and EKMC low-profile PIR sensors with an analog output with adjustable sensitivity, or with a digital output with various sensitivity levels. Digital output sensors also include options for standby current as low as 1 microamp to support battery powered and energy harvesting applications.
